Feature Detail
One connection - 4 options

With SolidSteel parametric for SOLIDWORKS, more than 500 different standard structural steel connections can be created. These include single connections such as end plates, gusset plates or clip angle connections, but also complex combinations of several different connections such as an end plate, several ribs and haunches.

In this feature detail we present a simple connection situation from a stage girder to a frame girder and create this connection in 4 different ways.

Double end plate

The end plate connection is probably one of the most common connections in structural steel design and is of course supported by SolidSteel parametric for SOLIDWORKS in all possible situations. Only a profile and a connection surface have to be selected and the end plate is created. If desired, of course, also as a double plate and including the matching bolt sets as in our example.

Clip angle connection

For the clip angle connection, a cope cut is first created in the connecting beam. Different parameters such as shape and geometry can be set. Then the clip angles are placed on both sides. The bolts were not created directly because of the different clamping lengths but are then conveniently inserted with the SolidSteel parametric bolting manager.

Non bending resistant end plate

As already described in the first example, end plates can be used with SolidSteel parametric for SOLIDWORKS in all possible installation situations. In this example, a cope cut was first created, similar to the 2nd example. Then an end plate is created between the already cut stage beam and the frame beam.

Tab connection

Even though this function has not been given its own entry in the menu of SolidSteel parametric for SOLIDWORKS, the gusset plate function can be used to create normal plate connections quite easily. This is easily done by selecting the bolted face and the welded face. This function cuts the profile, creates the boreholes, creates the sheet metal plate and places the bolts, nuts and washers - all fully automatically.

In addition to the examples shown in the video, other connections such as the bearing tab plate, welded connections with contour cutting or other end plate connections are possible with SolidSteel parametric for SOLIDWORKS.
