One connection - 4 options

SolidSteel for Siemens NX provides you with many options for connections in steel design. In this FeatureDetail, we would like to introduce you to four variations that make an everyday task - connecting two beams - fully detailed, quick to manage using the tools in SolidSteel.

Double End Plate

The End Plate tool provides you with every conceivable option for this, probably most common, connection in steel design. In the example you can see in the video from 0:19 to 1:24, we create a double End Plate including all necessary machining and the appropriate bolting.

Clip Angle connection

The video from 1:25 to 2:52 shows the creation of a complete clip angle connection including the preparatory machining such as notching the stage girder or drilling the webs, selecting and adding the clip angles and the complete screw connection.

Fin plate

The fin plate connection as the 3rd variation, can be seen in the video from 2:53 to 4:17 and preparations are necessary for this connection as well, but they can be done quickly with the provided tools. The actual fin plate is easily defined in the tool of the same name. With the addition of the bolted joints, this section of the video also shows ways to increase performance on extensive projects.

Bearing tab

From 4:18 to 5:18, the 4th option you will see is the connection using a bearing tab. Besides the selection of the 3 basic types "Chamfer", "Contour" and "Borehole" for the welded part of the tab, SolidSteel offers a wide range of settings in the menu for the geometry and the drilling pattern of the bolted side. This part of the video also shows another option for clamp length calculation and for adding bolted joints to any components.
