In steel design, bracing is an important part of the design, but inserting bracing in SolidSteel parametric was previously only possible through the Assembly Manager and therefore not very intuitive. The new bracing feature in SolidSteel changes all that!
Read below to learn how to teach and place braces with the new feature.
To teach a individual bracing, simply create a new assembly and design the bracing as desired.
You can use SolidSteel profiles and features for the design, as well as regular SOLIDWORKS or standard parts. All parts in the assembly are treated as elements of the bracing. The assembly only needs to be created systematically with a flexible/underdefined sketch* and does not need to match the later dimensions.
The Learn Bracing function guides you through the steps necessary to make the bracing usable.
We know from experience that the mention of underdefined sketches usually sets off alarm bells for users of parametric CAD systems.
This is understandable, since parametrics relies on everything being precisely defined.
But when it comes to creating flexible templates, this under-definition is absolutely necessary so that the entire design can adapt when it is used later. So the definition is done at the moment the bracing is used in SolidSteel.
The bracing is defined by 2-n corner points. The order of point selection determines the order of reference selection during placement.
To save the new template, a name and optionally a description must be entered.
It is also optional to select additional sketch lines to create a more detailed preview.
Confirming the function teaches the assembly and makes it available in SolidSteel parametric.
The Bracings function allows you to place previously learned bracings in the current assembly.
After selecting a learned template, a sketched preview of the bracing is displayed with numbered reference points.
