In our latest webinar, we show how stairs and railings in SOLIDWORKS can be designed efficiently, parametrically, and in a practical way – from the first sketch to the finished shop drawing and bill of materials.
The video is now available on YouTube – and for the first time bilingual with German and English audio tracks.
In the webinar, Henning Saal from Klietsch GmbH demonstrates the complete design process using the example of a typical steel stair with railing.
The following steps are shown, among others:
Parametric creation of a stair based on just a few sketch elements
Use of profile and sheet metal stringers, including new functions for continuous sheet metal stringers
Splitting stair stringers to create transport-friendly welded assemblies
Convenient creation of railings based on reusable templates
Automatic generation of shop drawings and bills of materials
Special focus is placed on a continuous, practical workflow that supports not only the design itself, but also downstream processes in work preparation and fabrication.
One of the new features shown is the ability to specifically split stair stringers in order to divide large welded assemblies into more manageable segments. This significantly simplifies transport, fabrication, and installation.
Another new feature is the convenient creation of continuous sheet metal stringers, which can be exported directly as DXF files and manufactured, for example, on laser cutting machines.
These functions offer significant added value, especially for steel fabricators and designers, in their daily work.
Another focus is on template-based railing design. Once defined, railing variants can be saved as templates and reused across multiple projects.
This significantly reduces design effort while ensuring consistent results at the same time.
In addition to modeling, the webinar also shows how automatically:
shop drawings can be created
item numbers can be assigned
and complete bills of materials can be exported
This demonstrates how the entire process, from design to fabrication documentation, can be efficiently supported.
This webinar is also a premiere:
For the first time, both German and English audio tracks are available in a single video.
Viewers can select their preferred language directly in the video player.
With this format, we aim to make our content accessible to an even broader international audience in the future.
The webinar demonstrates in a practical way how modern parametric tools can make the design of stairs and railings in SOLIDWORKS significantly more efficient – while maintaining high flexibility and providing continuous support for downstream fabrication processes.
