Autodesk acquires select Klietsch technology and intellectual property (IP) associated with SolidSteel parametric and DSTV Assistant for Autodesk Inventor

We’re pleased to share that Autodesk has completed its acquisition of select Klietsch technology and intellectual property (IP) associated with SolidSteel parametric and DSTV Assistant for Autodesk Inventor.

For many years, these products have helped Inventor customers address specialized steel detailing and fabrication workflows. We’re proud of what our team has built and excited to see this technology become part of Autodesk’s continued investment in Inventor and the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection (PDMC).

The Acquisition at a Glance

Under this agreement, Autodesk has acquired the underlying technology and IP associated with our two Inventor-focused products, SolidSteel parametric for Autodesk Inventor and DSTV Assistant for Autodesk Inventor.

The acquired technology includes specialized capabilities for structural-steel connections, detailing automation, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and DSTV/NC output. Over time, Autodesk intends to explore how these functionalities can support more automated structural-steel design-to-fabrication workflows in Inventor and PDMC.

“That’s where I see the biggest opportunity,” said Jon den Hartog, Autodesk’s Vice President of Product Development and Manufacturing Solutions. “The acquired technology gives us proven capabilities to build on, from more specialized steel detailing and automation to tools that can help carry design information further downstream toward fabrication.”

Existing customers of SolidSteel parametric and DSTV Assistant for Autodesk Inventor will be informed separately and directly by Klietsch about the next steps.

What this means to us

For our teams, this is an important milestone in the history of these products.

“Developing SolidSteel parametric and DSTV Assistant for Autodesk Inventor has been an exciting challenge for our team over many years,” said Sebastian Klietsch, Managing Director, Ingenieurgemeinschaft Klietsch GmbH. “Seeing the technology become part of Autodesk’s continued investment in Inventor is a special recognition of that work, and we’re excited about the possibilities ahead. At the same time, the transaction gives us the opportunity to focus even more strongly on our broader product portfolio and new projects.”

Klietsch GmbH: What’s Next for Us?

Klietsch GmbH will continue to operate as an independent company and develop the rest of its product portfolio. The other business and product areas, including other products, add-ins, and technology, are not affected by the transaction.

Nothing will change for our customers in these areas. We remain available as your point of contact as usual and will continue to actively develop our offerings in these areas.

If you are an existing customer of SolidSteel parametric or DSTV Assistant for Autodesk Inventor, our team will contact you directly with information relevant to your products and next steps.
