Profiles & Libraries

The base of every steel design are the typical steal profiles or beams. A comprehensive profile library is delivered by default in SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX. This library is based on the Siemens NX Reuse library and can be extended in any ways.

The profiles will be placed be an comfortable dialogue. A system line will be selected in the 3D model. Now the user can see an preview of the beam immediately. Of cause all the settings like the position to the system line, a rotation and many more can be set individually. After clicking apply, the profile will be created as an usual Siemens NX part.

Individuel offsets

If no setting is changed, the center point of the transverse section of the beam is on the system line. Often this is not enough in structural steel designs. For getting better results, there are different functions available in SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX to change the position of the beam relativ to the system line.

parallel offsets
During the creation of the profiles, simple parallel offsets can be set. That cause that the whole profile will be displaced by the half hight or the half width parallel to the system line. So there are 9 points in the transverse section of the beam where the system line can be.

individual offsets
In addition to the parallel offsets, there are individual offsets available, if the parallel offsets are not enough to bring the beam to the correct place. With this function the user is able to change the offset at the start and the end point of the profile differently. Therefor the end of the profile can be moved in a random direction are along an existing edge. In Addition to the individual offsets, its also possible to change the length of the beams.

trimming profiles

The most easiest way to connect profiles with each other is to cut them off. Therefor dozens of trimming functions are available in SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX. The software is working with intelligent calculations and edits the parts automatically correct. There are just a few entries of the user necessary. The cuts can be done at all profile types, no matter if its an I beam or an round tube.

End plates

One of the most common connections in structural steel design is the end plate connection. With SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX it is possible to connection any profile with an random surface. The user can select if a single or a double end plate should be placed. Additionally the end plates and the beams will be stored in the correct welded component assembly.

A library with standard end plates following DAST is in delivery. So you can use the standard connections, you can take a standard connection and edit it or you can create a complete individual end plate connection. The individual connections can be stored in the database and so a user defined standard library can be build up.

gusset plates

Gusset plates can be design with just a few clicks in SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX. In this process, the profiles will be adjusted, the gusset plate will be placed and the hole pattern will be transferred to the profile. There are 4 different types available and all the necessary parameters can be set in comfortable NX like menus.

Some changes of the structural steel design may force a change of the angle of the bracings. So a complete new shape of the gusset plates is necessary. Even in those cases, SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX is going to change the shape of the gusset plates automatically. There is no need for an manual process.

Ribs

Stiffeners can be placed very comfortable with SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX. There are three different types of corners available for the stiffeners. Also you can select if the stiffener fills the complete profile width or for example just the half. In both cases all of the dimensions can be changed manually.

Stiffeners & Haunch

In Addition to the ribs its also possible to place so called haunch plates. Therefor both contact surfaces are selected and SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX is going to place the haunch place automatically in the correct angle. An option is to place an chort plate. So complex frame corners can be built up fast and easy.

Plate connections

Staps, fish joints and others are also available in SolidSteel parametric for SOLIDWORKS in different shapes. To create this connections you always select between two surfaces or a beam and a surface. All the settings like the hole pattern or the size can be set individually in comfortable menus.

Clip angle connections

In the new version of SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX, classic clip angle connections can be placed very easy and fast. The connections made of L beams can be placed between two surfaces in the construction.

A library with standard clip angle connections following DAST is in delivery. So you can use the standard connections, you can take a standard connection and edit it or you can create a complete individual clip angle connection. The individual connections can be stored in the database and so a user defined standard library can be build up.


NC Data Export

NC Data in DSTV Format

An important following process of a steel construction is the export of the NC data. This data can be send directly to the manufacturing machines.

Using the SolidSteel parametric NC data module, NC data can be exported in DSTV format. Sawing angles, cope cuts or boreholes. All these necessary information for manufacturing are stored in the NC data files.

The NC data module is available as an separated module for SolidSteel parametric for Siemens NX.
